Plant Sale

Lynn Abdala donates a wide variety of plants to MEL, and we offer them for sale on our back patio.

Lynn’s father, Frank Roberts, had the idea of selling plants at the library when he was a volunteer. He continued this service until he passed away in 2006, and Lynn took over this very important calling and has been donating plants for over 20 years.

Her “farm” is her backyard in Mérida. It's small but has many varieties of plants. Friends also donate cuttings or seeds. Her husband, Luis, is an important cog in the operation, especially with transporting the plants to the library. They are a real team!

The plants they donate are pretty resilient; some for sun, some filtered sun, some shade. They are mainly ornamental although occasionally there are indigenous trees. You’ll almost always find spider plants, teléfonos, snake plants, philodendrons, asparagus, Chinese evergreens, and occasionally. Boston ferns, umbrella sedge, fan palms (native to beach), and various succulents (aloes, kalanchoes, echeverias).

New shipments are always arriving, so stop by and pick up one or several at MX$30 each. Your purchase, and the diligent efforts of Lynn & Luis, help support the library and our programs to the tune of about MX$10,000 each year. MEL is eternally grateful for their help.
