MAAYA CHAAK

Mérida

Painting • Paper

Maaya Chaak began his artistic path in 2018, carving and painting on Yucatán’s native limestone, and later found lasting inspiration in the rich Yucatecan Maya traditions of honoring the dead. His work reflects the emotions and beliefs of Yucatán’s people and their deep spiritual connection with those who have passed on. Each painting recreates scenes that celebrate and remember loved ones—people who, though absent physically, remain close through memory and ritual. Figures appear engaged in the simple, meaningful acts that once shaped their days, dressed in traditional attire, and enveloped in a vivid atmosphere that transforms remembrance into celebration.

His work has been shown in Yucatan and throughout Mexico as well as internationally in Canada, Colombia, England, Spain, and the United States.
