IVÁN GABALDÓN
Venezuela
Photography
In previous editions of the tour, Iván Gabaldón has presented Mérida street photography; abstract aerial landscapes of the Yucatán Peninsula; a water study printed on metallic paper; and an ongoing visual study on dry leaves that probes the paradox of the photographic apparatus as a machine that promises an objective record yet forges subjective vision, with no clear boundary between the two. For this series he uses deep focus to render hyperreal detail, allowing humble dry leaves to become protagonists. What begins as a formal inquiry into structure, texture, and color reveals the distinct character of each specimen, a presence that shifts in the eye of the beholder.
