Born and raised in Northern California, Erin Gomez Danielson is a lifelong, self-taught artist now happily embracing life in her husband’s hometown of Mérida. She works with papier-mâché, collage, cardboard, acrylic paint, and an ever-growing collection of found objects to create a varied body of 2D and 3D work. Inspired by discarded and recycled materials—styrofoam scraps, fallen branches, old doors, pizza ads, and last year’s school notebooks—she approaches each piece with a guiding principle: minimize waste and let imagination lead. Erin embraces the idea that “one person’s trash is another’s treasure” and lives by “necessity is the mother of invention.” In Mérida, she finds endless inspiration, from its materials to its everyday stories.
