ENRIQUE MIRALLES

Cuba

Printmaking

Enrique “Tente” Miralles is a Cuban visual artist specializing in printmaking, with an emphasis on collagraph and drypoint. He trained at the National Academy of Fine Arts San Alejandro and at the Experimental Workshop of Graphics in Havana, where he acquired the discipline and language that led him to found his own studio-workshop - Praxis Havana - in 2008.

His work is in public and private collections in countries around the world such as Spain, the USA, Argentina, Canada and Germany.

His pieces fuse influences from African art, the great European masters and his everyday environment: the city, identity, the neighborhood, the family. With simple materials such as cardboard or radiographic plates, he builds images that combine the poetic, the ironic and the human.

For Miralles, engraving is a space for experimentation between technique and chance. As he himself states: "The lie is just another type of truth... that has not happened yet"
