ABEL VÁZQUEZ

Cuyotepeji, Oaxaca

Painting • Sculpture

Abel trained at the National School of Painting, Sculpture, and Printmaking “La Esmeralda” of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico. As a sculptor, he creates both monumental and small-format works in bronze, stone, iron, and diverse resin techniques. In painting, he has an innate command of color, working masterfully across media, with a current focus on acrylics and watercolor.

His visual language is universal and contemporary, rooted in everyday themes and shaped by his deep connection to the earth, spirit, and his Oaxacan heritage. Magic and mysticism permeate his work, which Francisco Moyao describes as “phenomenological anthropomorphism.” His art is collected nationally and internationally. He now lives in Mérida, exhibiting at his gallery NAHUALLI Casa de los Artistas.
