We’re Closed!
Our Board of Directors is making plans to take advantage of this slow season to initiate some improvements to the Library. Inside the building, we’ll be adding additional shelving units to accommodate our ever-growing collection, plus painting the walls and taking care of some lingering maintenance issues. Outside, we have some trees that are damaging the floors and threatening the structural integrity of some walls. These trees will be removed and replaced with other green areas, and repairs to the damaged concrete will hopefully restore the floors and walls to like-new condition.
These renovations are extensive enough to require the Library to be closed. Our last full day of operation will be Friday, July 5, and we will be closed starting Saturday July 6. If you have been involved in any renovations in Mérida, you know the completion date is unpredictable. We plan for the library to be closed to all visitors and activities for a minimum of three weeks and there may be some time after that when access to the building is limited.
At this time, we anticipate that the Library will not be open to any visitors during the period between July 6 and July 27. Remember you can return books 24 hours a day through the book return slot in the front door. We kindly ask you to please wrap them inside a plastic bag to protect them from dust and possible rain. And, as always, you can request your items to be renewed by sending an email directly to us. Please include your name and the names of the items in that email. If you need to renew your membership, you can do that online in the MEL Shop.
If construction continues past July 27 and the conditions permit, we will offer limited curbside pickup service as we did during the pandemic. More information about this will follow as we get a better idea of the construction period.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and be on the lookout for updates as we have them.
Warm regards,
Greg Casini
President, Board of Directors
