Volunteers Wanted - The Original MEL House & Garden Tour Committee
The Mérida English Library is proud to celebrate the 21st anniversary of its legendary program, The Original MEL House & Garden Tour. Through this unique experience, guests from around the world have the opportunity to explore Mérida’s surrounding neighborhoods and step inside private homes, discovering a wide range of styles, décor, furnishings, and creative design ideas.
This program is one of the library’s key fundraisers, and it would not be possible without the incredible support of our dedicated volunteers who contribute throughout the season.
We are currently looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals who would like to be part of this program. This is truly a collaborative effort, which is why we are forming a new committee for The Original MEL House & Garden Tour.
Open roles include:
Coordinator
Oversees the committee, identifies participating homes, suggests off-site tours, and manages overall planning. Also serves as the main liaison with MEL staff, sharing key information such as attendance numbers, logistics, and promotional needs.
Homeowner Liaison
Communicates with homeowners to invite participation, propose tour dates, coordinate schedules (morning and evening tours), and send confirmations, reminders, and thank-you messages.
Email & Registration Manager
Handles general inquiries, manages online orders and payments (both online and in person at MEL), and maintains registration lists.
Volunteer Coordinator
Manages communication with volunteers and speakers, organizes schedules and rotations, distributes weekly updates, and oversees supplies such as t-shirts, flashlights, and name tags.
Design & Logistics
Creates tour routes, prepares and prints maps, produces name tags, and develops weekly volunteer schedules.
Accounting
Tracks all financial transactions, including online payments, card and cash sales, commissions, refunds, expenses, and advertising costs throughout the season.
While the House & Garden Tours take place during the high season (November through March), planning begins well in advance.
If you would like to support the library and take on one or more of these roles, please contact us at info@meridaenglishlibrary.com or tours@meridaenglishlibrary.com.
We will be hosting an informational meeting soon, followed by a training session for new committee members to begin preparing for the upcoming season.
The MEL staff and board members are happy to provide guidance, resources, and ongoing support to all volunteers involved in planning this wonderful program.
Thank you in advance for your interest and support.
