Celebrate National Reading Month
Did you know that March is National Reading Month in the US? Reading is celebrated in Mérida and the Yucatán this month with FILEY, La Feria Internacional de la Lectura Yucatán (Yucatán International Reading Fair). Internationally known writers share their works at this weeklong event at Siglo XXI, and MEL participates in Storytime activities for children.
Help us celebrate the pleasures of reading by sharing a comment about a book you’ve recently read! It can be as short as a phrase or as long as a paragraph, letting fellow MEL members know how you felt about the book. It can be fiction or nonfiction; adult, young adult or children. There is no limit to the number of books on which you may comment. Comments will be posted on a bulletin board at MEL and/or included in the For Love of Books blog in April. Send your comment to us by email, or just write it on paper and give it to the front desk volunteer.
If you enjoy reading and would like to share your enthusiasm with like-minded people, consider joining Fiction & Friends, the MEL Book Club. They meet monthly and are always ready to welcome new members. Click here for more information.
The Mérida English Library and its Library Collection Committee (LCC) send heartfelt thanks to the following people who have carried books back from the USA to Mérida for MEL in the past few months:
Jeanne Butler • Jim Kehoe • Margie Alexy • Evelyn Jackson • Erin Jordahn Scott
If you will be traveling to the USA and returning in the next few months, and have some extra luggage space, please contact Janelle Masden at janellemasden@gmail.com about helping the library by carrying books to Mérida. It can be as few as 2 or as many as you can carry!
Happy reading!
