MEL Magical Bazaar 2025 Report
"Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."
— Albus Dumbledore
We can’t stop thinking about how fun the MEL Magical Bazaar was — simply fabulous!
It all began when we planned the Harry Potter Storytime Special back in May. We received an invitation to collaborate with Club Harry Potter Mérida, the official fan club. They brought some of the characters to life and read excerpts from The Tales of Beedle the Bard by the same author — a book mentioned in the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. The audience truly enjoyed this unique version of MEL Storytime, and we thought: why not organize a larger event? That’s when the idea for the MEL Magical Bazaar was born.
Our MEL Bazaars are always a blast — full of vendors offering amazing, high-quality products such as handmade crafts, clothing, jewelry, décor, and more. This time, we invited vendors whose creations were entirely inspired by the Harry Potter universe: magical wands, Hogwarts outfits, charms, souvenirs, stationery, and many other magical items. Of course, we couldn’t leave out the iconic butterbeer, just like in the movies!
Our promotion on social media was especially well received by the local community, as many true fans were excited about this bilingual event. We even gave the MEL Newsletter a special edition in the style of the Daily Prophet, just like in the films!
We officially opened at 5 p.m., and as soon as the vendors were set up, visitors began to explore. From the children’s area to the patio and all the way to the classroom, the vendors filled MEL with their incredible energy. In the Judd Dolle Reading Room, we created a special gallery showcasing collectible items and special edition books from various countries and in multiple languages — all generously shared by Club Harry Potter Mérida, along with their mesmerizing decorations.
At 6 p.m., we held our Magical Wand-Making Workshop on the terrace. Professors Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall led the activity, explaining how to craft your very own wand. All materials were provided, and to our delight, the group was very engaged. Once the wands were ready, it was Duel Time — whoever could cast the most spells would win. A big round of applause to the fans who knew the correct spells!
As the evening progressed, the patio filled up with excitement in anticipation of the Magical Performance by magician Christian Allen. He presented a themed show especially for children (who were all seated on the floor), but the adults loved it just as much! Christian Allen did not disappoint — his show was absolutely stunning, with some lucky kids even getting the chance to participate. The performance was presented in both Spanish and English, which worked wonderfully for our diverse audience. Everyone enjoyed the show from every corner of the library, which practically came to a halt during the spectacle. At the end, the crowd showed their appreciation with enthusiastic applause — and even some well-deserved tips for the magician!
Some visitors left after the show, but the evening wasn’t over yet — it was time for the Scavenger Hunt! Those who stayed were invited to explore both the fiction and non-fiction sections of the library, searching among the books for fantastical creatures. The participant who found the most creatures won a magical prize!
By 9 p.m., it was time to say goodbye. It was bittersweet — we were tired but filled with joy and a sense of accomplishment after welcoming an amazing crowd, offering fun activities, and showcasing such wonderful vendors.
Special thanks to the volunteers who made this event possible — those at the front desk and front door, those guarding the gallery, taking pictures and videos, and sharing the experience on social media (we loved seeing the event through your eyes!). Thank you to the vendors who invested their time and effort to be part of the bazaar, to magician Christian Allen for his unforgettable show, to Club Harry Potter Mérida for bringing the magic and energy, to the MEL staff for their hard work, and of course, to you, the MEL Community, for dedicating your time to enjoy the activities and support the vendors.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
