Hosts wanted! - Conversaciones Con Amigos

We are looking for hosts!

The Mérida English Library has been hosting this language exchange program for over 20 years. Conversaciones Con Amigos started as an opportunity to exchange thoughts and practice conversation in English and Spanish, and it has become a well-known secure spot for local people, residents, and visitors from abroad to meet, talk to each other, practice a second language, and make friends.

We meet on Mondays starting at 7:00 PM on the patio at MEL. Participants sit at a table in a group of 5 or 6 people. We welcome the participants and share a suggested topic.

This is where hosts come to the rescue!

Hosts are volunteers who guide the conversation at the tables. They let everyone participate evenly and make slight grammar corrections if needed. They moderate the conversation in order to keep a safe and friendly environment at the table.

To be a host during Conversaciones de Amigos you have to:

• be a native English speaker, or fluent in the English language (level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, learn more here). No certificate is needed.

• have a sense of leadership to moderate the conversation and empathy to allow the participation of everyone.

• have a background in education or similar experience.

• be available to participate in the program according to the MEL calendar while you are in Mérida.

• be in touch with the library office, to schedule and organize your participation.
