Clean Energy at MEL

The Mérida English Library started using clean energy through solar panels back in May 2017. After the pandemic in 2020 - 2021, we restarted most of our programs, creating new events and experiences, and even extended our opening hours. It has been a pleasure to see long-time members come back, and new local faces and friends from abroad visiting MEL for the first time. As expected, this has increased energy usage, which has been reflected in our energy bills.

Until now! Thanks to Larry Nielsen, a long-time MEL member, who contributed the funds to add 4 new solar panels, an inverter, and the installation, in order to allow us to generate enough electricity to reduce our bills to zero!

The panels are up and running! This great donation will save the library approximately 12,000 pesos a year, and these savings can now be spent on other important priorities.

You can visit MEL during summer hours: Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm; Wednesday, 4 to 7 pm. Starting September 4th, we will resume our regular hours in which include Monday 6:30 to 8:30 PM and Friday 4 to 7 pm.
