MEL Talks - Bruce Hanners

Join us at the Mérida English Library at 7:00 PM on Wednesday January 28 as artist and frequent visitor Bruce Hanners discusses the history and evolution of the MEL patio mural, plus other activities he has undertaken during his long history in Mérida.  With photos covering the entire timeline of the mural, Bruce will describe the history and development of this iconic MEL centerpiece.

Bruce Hanners is an artist, sculptor, educator, and storyteller who has called this city home for over 40 years—though, as you’ll hear, it all started with a bit of a travel mix-up involving the wrong Mérida.

Bruce’s artistic journey is nothing short of inspiring. He specializes in bronze figurative sculpture, but that’s just the beginning. He’s also a painter, muralist, jewelry-maker, restorer of art and antique furniture, and—at heart—a lifelong teacher. He studied at The Ohio State University and has exhibited and lectured in both the U.S. and Mexico, including at MACAY, Instituto Patria, the Columbus College of Art & Design, and more. His work blends fine craftsmanship with an eye for soul, memory, and play.

Bruce will take us on a visual tour through his art and the stories behind it. There will be bronze, there will be wood, and there will definitely be a few laughs.

MEL Talks are free and open to the public. See the entire season lineup here.
