Conversaciones con Amigos
Practice English and Spanish. Meet new people. Build community.
Looking for a relaxed and welcoming place to practice English or Spanish? Conversaciones con Amigos is one of the Mérida English Library's longest-running community programs, bringing together locals, expats, and visitors from around the world for an evening of friendly conversation.
Whether you're fluent, just beginning to learn, or somewhere in between, you'll find a supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to participate, learn, and connect.
How It Works
Every Monday evening, participants gather at the Mérida English Library and are seated in small groups of five or six people.
Each table includes:
At least one native English speaker or an experienced English speaker.
A volunteer Host who moderates the conversation, encourages everyone to participate, and helps create a welcoming atmosphere.
A suggested conversation topic to help get the discussion started. You're welcome to follow the topic or naturally explore other subjects as the conversation develops.
This is a language exchange, so you decide how much English or Spanish you would like to practice throughout the evening.
A Few Guidelines
To ensure everyone enjoys the experience, we ask participants to help us maintain a respectful and inclusive environment.
Feel free to help others with vocabulary or expressions when they need it.
Making mistakes is part of learning—we're here to support one another.
Please avoid discussions about politics, religion, or sexual topics.
Treat everyone with kindness and respect. Harassment or discriminatory behavior of any kind is not permitted.
If you need assistance at any time, our program coordinator will be happy to help.
