Atticus uses aluminum insect screen as his basic creative material. All of the work has a core beginning inspired from childhood summers at his grandmother’s house – running in and out of her screen door. There is comfort in these memories. These memories provide an emotional shelter and sanctuary from the profound challenges of just living day to day. Atticus comes from a family of self-taught artists who used simple materials close at hand for creative expression.
