The Merida English Library (MEL) is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board exists to ensure that the organization fulfills it mission and complies with all applicable laws.
Board of Director Responsibilities:
The Board has the responsibility and authority to oversee all staff and volunteer activities of the Library, to establish it's priorities and internal policies, and to adopt and implement an annual budget. The Board of Directors elects the Library's officers and selects staff. Their strong leadership and dedication are critical to the ongoing effectiveness of MEL.
Each individual Board member is expected to:
know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
read and understand the organization’s financial statements
serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
Preference will be given to applicants who have:
Specific skills, experience or relationships that will help us achieve the Library’s mission
Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team
Previous organizational leadership experience
Permanent resident or citizen status
The Board of Directors will be considering applications for new members during the month of February.
